Silmarillion Chapters 17 & 18 (Silmarillion Study, Part 11)
We are on the eleventh week of our Silmarillion read-along and this week we’ll be discussing chapters 17 & 18 of the Quenta Silmarillion.
This week’s chapter blog posts:
Guide to The Silmarillion: Of the Coming of Men into the West (Ch. 17)
Guide to The Silmarillion: Of the Ruin of Beleriand and the Fall of Fingolfin (Ch. 18)
I wanted to share a note from a listener which was very helpful! She shared that the “Mae” in Maeglin or Maedhros are actually pronounced “my” instead of “may”. I had honestly just been going off of the way that these names were pronounced in the Silmarillion audiobook, but the pronunciation guide in the back of the book actually confirmed this! So I wanted to share since I’ve been accidentally saying it wrong this whole time, haha how embarrassing!
And this just goes to show that I’m not perfect and I don’t know everything about Tolkien, and I welcome any gentle criticisms or corrections! If I’m pronouncing anything else wrong or make any mistakes in these chapter discussions, please send me an email at kaitlyn@teawithtolkien.com and I’ll be sure to correct myself. Thanks so much to Megan for this helpful tip.
Thanks so much to all of our lovely patrons who support Tea with Tolkien each month! I’m so grateful for you and encouraged that you see what I’m doing over here as something worth supporting, so just know that it means the world to me!
Thanks so much for listening. We’ll be back next week with Chapter 19: Of Beren and Lúthien
