September 22nd marked the birthdays of both Frodo and Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings. For this reason it is often referred to as ‘Hobbit Day’. Incidentally, The Hobbit was published on the 21st of September, 1937, which adds another layer of celebration to this week each year.

Since our family’s first celebration in 2011, our annual Hobbit Party has easily become one of our favorite annual family traditions. As the years have gone by and our family has grown, our Hobbit Parties have grown with us — what started as an all-day The Lord of the Rings movie marathon has eventually become a weekend-long festival filled with food, drink, and games for the whole family. Typically, these celebrations are focused very heavily on food and cheer and song. I’ve created this page to include all of the recipes, activities, printable resources, and other helpful thoughts I’ve had over the years.
