As this year is drawing to a close and we’re beginning to look forward to 2022, I wanted to share a bit about what you can expect from Tea with Tolkien in this coming year.
This year is sure to be an adventure-filled one for Tolkien fans around the world and I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue creating resources, recording podcasts, and leading book clubs for Tolkien fans new and old.
Wrapping Up our Lord of the Rings Book Club
In January, February, and March our Book Club will be wrapping up our read-along of The Lord of the Rings! It’s been a great experience so far and despite having read the book so many times, I still learning something new each time.
If you’d like to join our Book Club, you can learn more here. The podcasts for Book V, Book VI, and a recap of the entire The Lord of the Rings story will be published on January 1st, February 1st, and March 1st respectively. After this Book Club concludes we will be taking a break until our Silmarillion Crash Course in the summer.
On the Blog and Podcast
I’m planning to spend more time in 2022 diving deeper into different themes, passages, and characters from Tolkien’s works and exploring their connections to Tolkien’s Catholic faith. While I’ve spent the last year and a half providing quick summaries for The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings, I haven’t had the time to go into as much depth as I’d like — so I’m looking forward to this!
Tolkien Reading Day 2022
Tolkien Reading Day is celebrated on March 25th every year, in honor of the date on which the One Ring was destroyed. I’ve written about the significance of this date and why I think Tolkien chose it here: Why March 25th Might Be The Most Important Date of all History.
The Tolkien Society has attributed a prompt for each year’s celebration and I’m looking forward to seeing what this year’s will be!
Christ and Tolkien Conference
I’m thrilled to be attending the Christ and Tolkien Conference this year! After being postposed due to Covid-19, the conference is scheduled for May 18-19th 2022 in Deerfield, IL. I’d love to see you at the conference! To learn more and purchase your tickets, you can visit the Christ and Tolkien website.
Silmarillion Crash Course
As Tolkien fans around the world ̶b̶r̶a̶c̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶s̶e̶l̶v̶e̶s̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ eagerly anticipate the premier of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series, it felt appropriate to host a “Silmarillion Crash Course” over the summer. More details will be coming soon for this, but I’m planning to do a very fast-paced read through of The Silmarillion and hopefully have a few Silmarillion experts share their knowledge of Tolkien’s lore with our community.
While it’s still unclear exactly what the show will cover, it seems that many important events and characters from the first and second age will be adapted onto the screen for the first time ever—- so the more familiar we are with The Silmarillion, the better!
#LOTRonPrime Premier
Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series is scheduled to premier on September 2, 2022. I’m sure I’ll have a lot to say about the show and will likely share my thoughts on here or social media.
Hobbit Day
September 22 is Hobbit Day! Our family will be celebrating with our annual party, and I’ll also be hosting an online celebration for our community as well. More details to come! You can explore everything I’ve written about Hobbit Day here.
More Free Resources
As I continue to learn from and be inspired by the works and faith of JRR Tolkien, you can expect more free resources to be added to our Free Resource Library! If you have any suggestions, please feel free to get in touch via email at kaitlyn@teawithtolkien.com. You can visit the full Free Resource Library here.
Our Patreon Community
I’m incredibly thankful for everyone who has supported Tea with Tolkien over the years by joining our Patreon community! In 2022, I hope to host more Patreon-exclusive online events where we can get to know one another better and continue to learn more about Tolkien together! If you’d like to learn more about our Patreon tiers and benefits, you can visit our page here.
If there’s something you’d like to see happening within the Tea with Tolkien community, please reach out via email or twitter as I’d love to hear from you! My mission here is to encourage as many people as I can to read Tolkien, to understand his works in light of the Catholic faith and philosophy he was rooted in, and to be inspired to live more like a ‘Hobbit at heart’.
